Detoxification is a process that takes place on a daily basis in order to eliminate substances that accumulate in our body and starts mainly in the liver with the aid from skin, kidneys, and colon. It is part of the body’s response to environmental toxins and depends heavily on enzymes. The body places great importance on this process for it can be potentially life threatening if it fails to occur.
It is a physiological function which can take over protein allocation in order to maintain balance and avoid toxic overload. There are many symptoms that can give us clues as to an inefficient detoxification process in our bodies such as chronic fatigue, skin disorders, hair loss, achy joints, foggy brain, difficulty with weight loss, headaches, constipation, gas and bloating, lack of motivation, weakness, inability to concentrate, insomnia, and inability to focus just to name a few.
There are steps we can take daily in order to keep the toxic load under control such as reducing intake of processed/ refined foods, reduce intake of pro-inflammatory foods, keep sugar and carb intake to a minimum as over eating them creates inflammation, reduce psychogenic stressors such as worrying and anger, and eliminate consumption of foods containing chemicals such as additives and preservatives. Instead, introduce quality whole foods in the diet in optimal amounts, drink plenty of purified water, pray, meditate, listen to your favorite music, take time to disconnect from work or things that worry you, try to sweat with a rigorous physical activity you can tolerate, and try to get plenty of sleep.
In addition to the aforementioned lifestyle modifications we can aid the detoxification organs with supplemental enzymes, probiotics, and key vitamins/minerals. The goal is to mobilize toxins from fat stores (adipose tissue and liver), make them physiologically stable, and eliminate them via the bile through the stool and/or urine through the kidneys.
Being free of toxicity is nearly impossible in the world we live in, so in order to have optimum health we depend on functioning organs in order to maintain balance between what comes in and what goes out. If the toxic overload is greater than the ability to eliminate we suffer in terms of health and vitality. At True Lifelong Wellness Center, we recommend a comprehensive blood panel and urinalysis in order to evaluate physiological function and balance of your internal environment. This balance relies upon the ability to detect environmental (external) and physiological (internal) changes in order to turn on special adaptive responses. If you or any one you know are suffering from a detox related problem we would love to help in order to achieve True Lifelong Wellness.
